MyMealVault

Getting Started

Use MyMealVault in ChatGPT

Connect the MyMealVault app in ChatGPT with OAuth, plan meals from chat, and disconnect when you are done.

MyMealVault in ChatGPT lets you search recipes you already saved, import from a link, adjust your meal plan, and build a grocery list from chat. You need a MyMealVault account. After you connect, ChatGPT uses the hosted MCP server at https://api.mymealvault.com/mcp.

Connect in ChatGPT

  1. Open MyMealVault

In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps or Plugins (the label depends on your account). Choose MyMealVault from the directory.
  2. Sign in on MyMealVault

Choose Connect. ChatGPT sends you to the MyMealVault consent screen at https://app.mymealvault.com/connect. Sign in and allow the scopes you want (read for lookup only, read and write for imports and meal plan changes).
  3. Try a prompt

Ask what is for dinner this week or to show your saved pasta recipes.

Four common journeys

  • What's for dinner? ChatGPT calls get_meal_plan for the current week and summarizes planned meals. If you do not have a plan yet, it can create one with create_meal_plan.
  • Save this recipe from a URL. ChatGPT calls import_recipe_from_url, checks get_recipe_import_status, then get_recipe when the job completes.
  • Put a recipe on a day. ChatGPT finds the recipe with search_my_recipes and adds it with add_meal_plan_item. To change a planned item, it uses move_meal_plan_item, replace_meal_plan_item, duplicate_meal_plan_item, or remove_meal_plan_item.
  • What do I need to buy this week? ChatGPT calls get_grocery_list for the week. That tool needs write access because it may create or refresh the stored list. Instacart links are optional and only after you agree.

ChatGPT can also read household preferences with get_household_preferences and change a saved recipe with update_recipe.

Actions that need a clear yes

delete_recipe permanently removes a recipe and drops it from meal plans. create_instacart_shopping_link creates a shopping list page on Instacart from your grocery list. Checkout and payment happen on Instacart, and MyMealVault never processes grocery payments. Confirm before ChatGPT runs either tool.

AI processing

ChatGPT can read or update your MyMealVault data only after you authorize the connection, and only within the scopes you grant. After MyMealVault sends that data to ChatGPT, OpenAI's terms and privacy policy govern how ChatGPT handles it.

Some MyMealVault actions, including URL import and saving a recipe with a title, ingredients, and instructions, send the relevant recipe content to Anthropic and/or Amazon Web Services (Bedrock) so the model can extract or enhance that recipe. Those providers process the content only to deliver the feature you requested. They do not use it to train their models. MyMealVault does not send your account identifiers (such as user id or email) in model prompts. The Privacy Policy lists the content categories that can be sent.

Disconnect

  • In ChatGPT: open Settings, then Apps or Plugins, and disconnect MyMealVault.
  • In MyMealVault: open the web app, go to Settings → Connected apps, and disconnect ChatGPT. The next request from ChatGPT fails until you connect again.

Troubleshooting

  • Import seems stuck. URL imports can take up to about two minutes. Ask ChatGPT to check import status again. If the site blocks import, ask it to save the recipe with create_recipe using a title, ingredients, and instructions.
  • Write tools fail with insufficient scope. You connected with read-only access. Reconnect and allow write on the MyMealVault consent screen.
  • Session expired or ChatGPT says MyMealVault is disconnected. Connect again from ChatGPT, or disconnect and reconnect under Settings → Connected apps in MyMealVault.
